“I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me” Terrace & Maya Angelou
Human actions become foreign to us when we can’t categorize them
can’t form the syllable sounds with our tongue and lips
can’t describe the undeniable emotions we feel with speech.
as human beings, we forget of the equality that we all hold
obscured by preconceived and predetermined unrealistic definitions placed on us by us
to keep all of us in check.
crooked check created
and molded by light,
not the luminosity but white.
no, none of it alien because most have chosen to accept
no, not alien but foreign
and that’s something we have been told that we can’t ever accept.
human speech has been infected and plagued by hurtful
derogatory unnecessary terms,
created to undermined and deflect
subliminal messages throughout our speech have become like neighbors,
cancerous tumors injected into our bloodied speech
passed down to us from past generations.
but I always wondered why?
why is it that the powerful truth
the correct words and sounds
were the ones that always felt foreign coming out of our mouths?
why is forgiveness and healthy love foreign?
why is it hard to understand and accept different understandings?
understanding that under the superficial we are all but
all seeking and searching,
why is it that what is foreign to us is what should be familiar to all?
Not alien because we know it exists, but foreign because we’ve chosen to ignore and fear it.
